Wisdom Teeth

When it comes to non-impacted wisdom tooth removal, the opinion on whether or not these teeth need to be removed always comes down to careful analysis by your dentist. Non-impacted wisdom teeth can, technically, cause you no problems at all for the duration of your life. However, as far as teeth are concerned, they have a tendency to be extremely problematic.
Wisdom teeth, like ll teeth, have three phases of development:
Impacted Wisdom Teeth: are below the gums. If an x-ray shows that these teeth need to be removed due to crowding or improper directional growth, these teeth will need to be removed by an oral surgeon. If they are ignored, they can cause damage to other teeth as they push through, or over-crowd your mouth and cause serious issues in your future.
Partially Erupted Wisdom Teeth: are wisdom teeth that are slightly pushed through the gum. They have only just started coming in, and due to their position in the mouth and their placement around other teeth, they can trap bacteria or food and cause tooth decay or infections, causing you serious pain.
Non-Impacted Wisdom Teeth: are wisdom teeth that have fully pushed through into your mouth. Unlike the previous two variants, they can be removed by the application of a numbing agent and general extraction techniques.
Regardless of the state of your Wisdom Teeth, it’s always important to seek the guidance of a professional when dealing with them. If they are going to cause harm to your mouth, then your dentist will recommend their removal. If not, then the decision is up to you whether or not to have them removed and avoid future problems. At Distinguished Dental, we have all the tools and knowledge to help guide you in this decision.
