When you or someone you love is in pain, it can be frightening! Dental emergencies never happen at a convenient time, and managing the situation can feel overwhelming. The first thing to do is remain calm. You can rest assured that with the right dental team on your side everything will be fine. The next thing to do is call your dentist in Keller. Your team at Distinguished Dental is here for you, and we’ll make every effort to see you as soon as possible. Dr. Sheri McIntosh discusses how to handle common emergency situations.
Dental Pain or Sensitivity
If you have a persistent toothache, it can be the indicator of an infection in your tooth. Please contact us right away, as an infection won’t go away without treatment. In fact, a dental infection will get worse, progress to other areas of your body, and could result in tooth loss. Root canal therapy could preserve your tooth if you act quickly.
A Tooth Knocked Out
Time is a critical factor in this situation because Dr. McIntosh has the best chance of preserving your tooth if she sees you within one hour of your injury. Transport your tooth carefully to our office and handle it as little as possible. Place it back into its socket if you can, or use a cup or baggie filled with milk to transport it safely while keeping its cells moist and alive.
A Lost or Broken Restoration
If your dental filling or crown falls out or becomes broken, contact Distinguished Dental to discuss your situation. While it may not need immediate attention, you’ll need to restore or replace your restoration in order to protect your tooth from further damage or infection. We’re happy to help you assess over the phone if you should be seen the same day.
A Broken or Chipped Tooth
If your tooth is broken, gather as many pieces as you can and contact our office. Dr. McIntosh will determine the best treatment to restore your tooth and get you comfortable again. If your tooth is chipped, give us a call to assess the damage. While you may not need to be seen right away, even a small chip should be smoothed so it doesn’t cause irritation to your soft tissues or tongue.
Distinguished Dental is here for you!
