If you want to minimize the chances of a dry socket occurring after your tooth extraction, you should make a point of following these 4 useful tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Plan on Only Eating Soft Foods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to protect your blood clot, you will need to stay away from certain foods during your recovery. Specifically, you should avoid anything that\u2019s particularly hard, sticky, crunchy, or chewy. Until your mouth has sufficiently healed, you should stick to soft foods. Good examples include scrambled eggs, yogurt, and applesauce. Be sure to plan your diet carefully to ensure that your body gets the nutrients it needs for a smooth healing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Don\u2019t Drink Anything Through a Straw<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll be told not to use straws in the days following your tooth extraction. This is because the suction created while drinking through a straw could end up disturbing your blood clot. It\u2019s therefore best to drink all beverages directly out of the cup throughout your recovery. Many patients are able to start using straws again after a week; however, if your tooth extraction was particularly complex, it may be best to wait around 10 to 14 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Give Yourself Time to Rest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first few days after your tooth extraction, you should avoid any type of strenuous exercise. Such activities can raise your heart rate, thereby increasing bleeding at the extraction site and potentially dislodging your blood clot. It\u2019s therefore better to give your body plenty of time to rest during the early stages of the healing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Keep Your Mouth Clean<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need to keep the extraction site as clean as possible while it\u2019s healing. Otherwise, harmful oral bacteria might break down your blood clot. To maintain a clean mouth after your tooth extraction, it\u2019s recommended that you start using a salt water rinse after the first 24 hours.
