Digital Dental Impressions
The creation of a dental crown, veneer, or any other type of custom restoration must first start with impressions. While cold, messy, and gag-inducing dental putty was the only method of capturing these molds in the past, we now use a Primescan digital impression system. Scanning the mouth with a handheld, camera-tipped device, it captures high-resolution images that form a 3D model that Dr. McIntosh sends to local laboratories, where comfortable, effective, and long-lasting restorations are created.
Intraoral Camera
It is now easier than ever to show patients what is happening inside their oral cavity. With intraoral cameras, we can scan the mouth and allow the images to project onto a chairside monitor for easy viewing. Patient education is a valuable part of every dental visit. Dr. McIntosh wants to make sure that each patient understands the situation, the recommended treatment plan, and the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
Digital Dental X-Rays
In the past, patients were exposed to higher levels of radiation when undergoing dental X-rays. While the scans were grainy and less than ideal in quality, they still served as a baseline for many dentists when formulating treatment plans. Thanks to advancements in dentistry, times and technologies have changed. With digital X-rays, we can now capture images of a patient’s smile in seconds without the harmful exposure to increased radiation. With high-resolution images readily available, Dr. McIntosh and her team can quickly produce treatment plans and reduce appointment times.
iTero Scanner
Has a dentist ever made you bite down into a gooey, gray, putty-like substance? If so, you’re already familiar with traditional dental impressions – and how uncomfortable they can be. They’re used to take a patient’s oral measurements for custom dental work like veneers, clear aligners, and dentures, so they’re often a “necessary evil.” Unless your dentist has an iTero scanner.
Our iTero scanner completely takes the gray goop out of the equation. It’s essentially a thin, portable, wand-like device with a small camera on the end. Just by hovering the camera over your teeth, we’re able to take highly precise images that can then be converted to digital impressions.
Woodpecker Laser
Our team feels very fortunate to have a dental laser in-office. Dental lasers like our Woodpecker Laser help make treatments more efficient, precise, and comfortable. They emit a highly concentrated beam of light that instantly cauterizes any oral tissue it comes into contact with, speeding up recovery times while also significantly reducing symptoms like bleeding and swelling.
The Woodpecker Laser in particular has a variety of applications. Here are a few examples of what we use it for here in the office:
- Removing excess or infected gum tissue (gingivectomy)
- Eliminating bacteria hidden beneath the gumline
- Treating advanced gum disease (perio-assisted LNAP)
- Releasing lip and tongue-ties (frenectomy)
- Taking samples of abnormal oral tissue (biopsy)
