Relaxing Keller Residents with Sedation Dentistry
Sedation Options for Patients
Do you feel yourself tensing up when you think about going to the dentist? You’re not alone. Every year, patients just like you put off or avoid necessary dental care completely because of anxiety or fear. But thankfully, there’s hope. To make your experience more comfortable, we offer a variety of sedation services to help you relieve anxiety, including nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Better known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide helps us enhance patient comfort easily. You’ll simply inhale the nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture through a special face mask while Dr. McIntosh and her team work on improving your smile. During your appointment, you’ll feel relaxed and confident as we complete your treatment. What’s more, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly. Within minutes of removing the mask, you’ll feel well enough to continue with your day.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation helps patients achieve a sense of calm using a safe oral medication prescribed for you by Dr. McIntosh. Typically, you’ll take your medication one to two hours before arriving for your appointment. By the time you arrive—with the help of a responsible friend or family member—you’ll already feel relaxed and ready for your procedure. If needed, we can also administer nitrous oxide to help you feel even more comfortable. After your procedure, your friend or family member will drive you home and stay with you until the effects of your medication wear off.
For patients with severe anxiety, or who want to complete more work in fewer visits, IV sedation is often the best choice. With IV sedation we have greater control over your relaxation levels, so we can provide you with exactly what you need. Because your comfort and wellbeing are important to us, don’t eat or drink anything eight hours before your appointment. Our team will carefully monitor your blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate during your visit. Once you’re ready to leave our office, a responsible friend or family member will drive you home and stay with you until your drowsiness wears off.
