What is a Dental Bridge?

To create a dental bridge, a number of artificial teeth known as pontics are suspended between a pair of dental crowns. The pontics are what will ultimately act as your new teeth. Meanwhile, the crowns are meant to be attached to your natural teeth in order to ensure that the entire prosthesis stays anchored in place at all times. Both the pontics and the crowns can be made out of materials that allow them to blend right in with the rest of your smile.

Types of Dental Bridges

There are two main kinds of dental bridges: traditional bridges that use natural teeth for support and implant bridges that are attached to dental implant posts. Once we’ve had a chance to examine your smile, we can help you figure out which type of bridge is right for you.

Traditional Dental Bridge

To have a traditional dental bridge placed, the teeth on either side of the gap being filled must be in good condition overall. We may recommend this type of bridge if you are only missing one tooth or two teeth that were right next to each other.

Implant Bridge

A pair of dental implants can be used to support a dental bridge in order to replace three or more consecutive teeth. One of the advantages of getting an implant bridge is that, unlike a traditional bridge, it will not require us to remove any enamel from the teeth you still have. On top of that, dental implants are well-known for providing high levels of stability, and they tend to feel very natural.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

Rebuilding your smile with a dental bridge will allow you to take advantage of the following benefits:

  • Easy Maintenance: Dental bridges are very easy to take care of since they can be brushed and flossed like natural teeth.
  • Prevention of Misalignment Issues: The presence of a dental bridge can help stop your remaining teeth from drifting out of alignment.
  • Durability: In many cases, a well-cared-for dental implant can last for more than 10 or even 15 years.
